R. Craig Boyd, born in Paris, Texas, in 1957, was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1982. His preparatory education was in the Paris public schools and at Paris Junior College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1977. He then attended The University of Texas at Austin where he received a B.B.A. with honors as an accounting major in 1979 and Southern Methodist University, in Dallas, Texas, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree in 1982 with a concentration in taxation. He became licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in 1984.
Following law school, Mr. Boyd practiced in the tax department of Ernst & Winnie (now Ernst & Young), an international “Big Eight” accounting and tax firm and then served as a tax consultant to Dallas oil and business man, Edwin L. Cox, Sr. In 1984 he moved to Tyler, Texas and joined Henry & Adams, P.C., a real estate, estate planning and general business law firm, where he obtained substantial business, real estate, estate planning and title examination experience. He has been, primarily, a “solo” practitioner in law in Tyler since 1988 and in Austin, Texas as well. Mr. Boyd’s practice is devoted to representation of licensed professionals, entrepreneurs, families, and individuals with regard to estate and business planning, contract and health care law, asset preservation, taxation, probate, real estate, and general business including corporate, partnership, limited liability, and professional entities. His practice includes some foreign as well as domestic planning. He has been counsel to several independent physician associations and physician and health care groups.
Mr. Boyd has been active in many civic and charitable organizations including: Director, Tyler Real Estate College; Treasurer/Director, East Texas Estate Planning Council; Director, American Red Cross; Director, Treasurer, Vice-Chairman, and Chairman, Hospice of East Texas; University of Texas Health Center at Tyler, Planned Giving Committee; Chairman, Annual Golf Tourney, Hospice of East Texas; Director, Discovery Science Place, Tyler; Director, Green Acres Baptist Church Recreational Ministry; Director and Chairman, Hospice of East Texas Foundation; Director, Green Acres Baptist Church Foundation.
As a founder, consultant and legal advisor to East Texas Medicine, a physician published medical journal, he authored “Asset Protection,” Volume 2, Number 2, which was featured in the journal. Mr. Boyd has been a frequent speaker on many topics including estate planning, business, health care and asset preservation.
A current or former member of the Smith County and American Bar Associations, State Bar of Texas, State Bar College of Texas, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, and American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants, Mr. Boyd is also a current or formerly approved attorney for Stewart Title Company and Lawyer’s Title Company.
Mr. Boyd, a letterman on The University of Texas at Austin tennis team and former tennis teaching professional in Stratton Mountain, Vermont, Snowmass Village, Colorado, and New Braunfels, Texas, and a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo, enjoys traveling, church mission trips, shooting sports, hiking “14ers” and snow skiing in Colorado, scuba diving, sailing, physical fitness training, and reading, particularly American history and accounts of World War II and the Civil War. Mr. Boyd and his spouse, Victoria (“Vicky”), a Registered Nurse and Realtor, reside in the Tyler area and are active at Flint Baptist Church near Tyler.
